What IS PTA?PTA is the nation’s largest thriving child advocacy organization. The PTA believes that every child deserves excellence in education and in quality of life. Each local PTA, such as Okte PTA, is an independent group that collaborates with its school, planning its programs and activities to meet the needs of the children and youth in its community. PTA is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that operates exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. Each unit, district council and regional PTA has bylaws, elected officers and committees. We are all part of the New York State and National PTA. PTA members are advocates for the well-being of children and youth, and unit activities should always maintain this focus.
Our PTA’s Role: To foster partnerships between our students’ families and the staff and administration of our school and the district at large. Our PTA’s Mission: To provide quality programs and opportunities to our students, families, faculty and staff to enrich the Okte experience. |
How Do I Join The OKTE PTA? |
By becoming a member of the PTA, your dues help fund numerous programs at our school. Your support is crucial. The cost is $5/member and makes you an eligible member for the school year. Those who join become voting members of the PTA community. You also get member benefits and discounts from the National PTA.

Why Should I Join the OKTE PTA? |
With your PTA membership:
You show your children that school matters, and that you are invested in their success. You demonstrate to your child that success in school is the pathway to college, a career and a productive life! You partner with the principal, teachers and staff to make your child's school safe, welcoming, a hub of learning, and a fun place to be. You share in campus events and experiences that make your child’s school days more memorable! You connect with other parents, and become part of NYS PTA and National PTA, the largest and most powerful children’s advocacy organization in the country. You help make sure parents and family members voices are heard when decisions that affect your school are made. Note: You must be a PTA member to vote, serve as a program chair, and serve on the Executive Board. |
IF I Join the Okte PTA, Do I Have to.... |
Go to meetings?
No. You are welcome to attend our general meetings though. You’ll have access to “hot off the press” information if you take part in the PTA meetings. You never know what new information will be shared at a meeting, so it’s best for you to be at the meetings to find out. Volunteer or spend a lot of time at school? Nope! Joining the PTA is not the same as volunteering. Volunteering with PTA activities (and we would LOVE the help) is not required. |
